Zarpara Vineyards
Description
Zar•pa•ra: español. NAUT. weigh anchor, set sail
Zarpara Vineyard is tucked under the Dos Cabezas Mountains in Cochise County in southeastern Arizona. The vineyard is located in an area called the Willcox Bench, just a few miles south of Willcox, and ideal for growing wine grapes. At 4,200 feet, the elevation makes for warm days and cool nights over the growing season. The soil is mostly sandy loam and rocky and has a slight slope.
Zarpara wines are already winning awards! You’ll find a great selection of white wines and reds in the tasting room, usually all dry. Rather than specializing in a particular style or region, their wines are produced from varietals that originated in the upper Mediterranean from Spain, across France, to Italy. If you would bring back with you a grapevine stick from Greece to plant in their vineyard, they would be very grateful!
The tasting room and winery are right there at the vineyard. Rhona or Mark are usually pouring wine in the tasting room, so chances are you get to visit with the owners themselves. While you are there, ask for a tour of the winery, or take a stroll in the vineyard. And if it’s a nice day, bring a picnic along to enjoy with a bottle of Zarpara wine on their outdoor terrace.
